Some Things to See and Do
This area is a walker’s paradise and the length and strenuousness of your walk can be chosen to suit your mood from the Five Fingers, Cairnsmore Hill, Glentrool, and Galloway Forest Park.
For the discerning cyclist – every level of competence can be enjoyed on the renowned 7 Stanes cycle ways. Also there is the National Cycle route which runs by the Cairnsmore Estate.

Newton Stewart is the closest town to Stable Cottage where there are shops, a Cinema, swimming pool and various hostelries. A visit to the local Tourist Information Centre will keep you updated with events.
In and around this area there is something for everyone be it orienteering, wildlife watching, watersports and relaxing on a beach.
There are also many visitors attractions to include museums, wildlife parks, adventure playgrounds, galleries. There is every chance that whatever you enjoy can be found in Dumfries and Galloway.
For instance, we have the Town of Food in Castle Douglas, the Town of Art in Kirkcudbright and the Town of Books in Wigtown.
There are more red squirrels in the south west of Scotland than anywhere else in Britain.
